Both phones do a fairly good job overall, though, especially with the footsteps in the snow. In this photo of a small lucky bamboo plant, I actually prefer the Note 20 Ultra's photo because of the way it deals with the light streaming through the window. The bright points at the top of the leaves make the shot look more compelling. The S21 Ultra's pic is too uniform throughout. This is where the Note 20 Ultra really starts to fall behind. This portrait looks completely blown out compared to the S21 Ultra. It looks like there's a white haze or film over the whole scene. Whereas the S21 Ultra does a better job capturing a more accurate dark blue in my jacket; my face also has a warmer tone than in the Note's shot. At 10x zoom, the Galaxy S21 Ultra delivers more detail and more accurate hues in this shot of a tree with some bird and squirrel feeders. The Note 20 Ultra struggles with the bark and the feeder in the top left of the frame gets almost completely lost along the edges. Once we get to 50x zoom, it's no contest. The Note 20 Ultra's photo is so blurry and hazy it looks like an impressionist painting. The bark and feeder both look a lot clearer in the S21 Ultra photo. But it's not a huge example, on our video editing test, which involves transcoding a 4K video clip to 1080p using the Adobe Premiere Rush app, the Galaxy S21 Ultra took 1 minute and 2 seconds to complete the task. Présentation Samsung ouvre le bal de ses smartphones premium de 2021 avec le Galaxy S21 Ultra, son vaisseau amiral. Il succède à l'excellent Galaxy S20 Ultra, mais doit également faire face à une concurrence toujours plus féroce sur le très haut de gamme, après une année 2020 chargée. En mettant ses déboires de côté, Huawei a réussi à proposer un Mate 40 Pro incroyable sur le plan hardware. Avec ses Mi 10 et Mi 10 Pro, Xiaomi a su tirer son épingle du jeu en proposant des modèles haut de gamme très compétitifs. Hors Android, il y a bien évidemment l'iPhone 12 Pro Max qui a su convaincre. Bref, tout se joue pour Samsung avec ce modèle Ultra qui entend reprendre le meilleur de son prédécesseur, en apportant quelques ajustements. Au programme une fiche technique ambitieuse avec un écran Oled de 6,8 pouces 120 Hz, une puce gravée en 5 nm, et toujours plus de modules fiche technique d'exception qui a bien entendu un prix. Ce Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra est lancé en France à partir de 1259 € dans sa version proposant 128 Go de stockage et 12 Go de RAM. Comptez 1309 € pour autant de RAM et un stockage doublé. Enfin, la version extrême 512 Go de stockage et 16 Go de mémoire vive s'affiche à 1439 €. Ergonomie et design Après une longue prise en main, nous ne pouvons que réitérer l'affection que nous portons à ce nouveau design. Le smartphone est un peu moins grand que le modèle de 2020 6,8 pouces contre 6,9 pouces, mais reste toujours aussi imposant 165,1 x 75,6 x 8,9 mm et gagne un peu de poids 227 g. Toutefois, son ratio 209 en fait un mobile en longueur, ce qui rend la prise en main assez agréable. Au dos, la finition mate noire — pour le modèle de notre test — est du plus bel effet. Elle attire moins les traces de doigts que ce que nous craignions. Quant au nouvel îlot photo, il n'est plus "simplement posé" sur la partie, mais désormais intégré dans le prolongement de la tranche droite. Un parti-pris esthétique vraiment l'avant, la firme sud-coréenne réitère le choix d'une dalle Oled, avec un poinçon en plein milieu. L'écran est incurvé, contrairement à celui des S21 et S21+. La courbure n'est toutefois pas aussi prononcée qu'elle le fut. Sous cet écran, nous trouvons le lecteur d'empreinte digitale de seconde génération qui s'avère beaucoup plus réactif. Le déverrouillage du mobile est presque de l'écran du S21 Ultra est bien protection en verre Corning Gorilla Glass Victus est reprise du Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, aussi bien à l'avant qu'à l'arrière. Ajoutons aussi que le S21 Ultra est à la norme IP68, ce qui garantit son tranches s'avèrent très classiques. Tous les boutons se trouvent sur la droite. Le réglage du volume se situe juste au-dessus de la touche de démarrage. La tranche inférieure présente un haut-parleur, un port USB-C, ainsi qu'un emplacement permettant d'accueillir 2 cartes SIM ; pas d'espace pour une carte microSD cependant. Samsung a décidé de s'en passer sur ses nouveaux appareils haut de gamme. Il faudra faire avec les 128, 256 ou 512 Go de mémoire nouveauté de cette itération, la compatibilité avec le S-Pen est finalement plutôt limitée. Sans batterie, les stylets vendus avec le S21 Ultra ne prennent pas en charge les fonctionnalités Bluetooth. De fait, son usage se limite à la prise de notes et à la navigation. Ceci étant dit, le stylet fonctionne parfaitement et la sensation de précision des Galaxy Note se retrouve ici. Un argument supplémentaire pour la théorie de l'unification des deux gammes....AudioComme son aïeul, le S21 Ultra ne possède pas de prise mini-jack 3,5 mm ni d'adaptateur dans la boîte. Des écouteurs filaires à brancher directement sur le port USB-C sont toutefois fournis avec les modèles son des haut-parleurs est de bonne qualité. Ils ne saturent pas facilement, même à fort volume. L'écoute musicale est agréable, tout comme le visionnage de vidéos. Écran La dalle de ce S21 Ultra est sans aucun doute dans la continuité de celle du S20 Ultra, et donc tout bonnement excellente. Au moment où nous écrivons ces lignes, il s'agit du meilleur écran du marché. Un beau et grand afficheur de 6,8 pouces, à la définition WQHD+ 3200 x 1440 pixels, proposant un taux de rafraîchissement adaptatif à 120 Hz. C'est d'ailleurs l'amélioration de cette édition 2021 le Galaxy S21 Ultra est capable d'offrir le taux de rafraîchissement maximal tout en offrant la définition presque maximale. Il peut ainsi afficher à 120 Hz en WQHD+. À titre de comparaison, le S20 se limitait au FHD+.Avant de profiter de cet excellent écran, il va falloir faire le traditionnel petit tour dans les réglages. C'est le mode "naturel" qui permet de bénéficier du meilleur rendu à l'œil et à l'usage. Le delta E moyen relevé est ainsi de 1,7. Aucune dérive chromatique n'est donc visible à l'œil nu. De son côté, la température des couleurs 6789 kelvins se situe presque au niveau de la norme vidéo 6500 K. Cela se traduit par un écran qui tire vers des tons très légèrement froids. Dalle Oled oblige, le taux de contraste est quasiment infini et temps de rémanence inexistant. Il s'agit donc d'un écran idéal pour visionner du contenu vidéo. Colorimétrie Delta E = 1,7 La luminosité maximale atteint 999 cd/m² — soit l'une des plus puissantes mesurées à ce jour. L'utilisation de jour est donc excellente, même s'il faudra faire attention aux reflets du soleil réflectance mesurée à 50,2 %. A minima, la luminosité descend à 1,7 cd/m², ce qui est confortable dans l'obscurité. Le retard tactile est de 47 ms, un bon score, suffisant pour jouer aux jeux vidéo. Performances Après les performances décevantes de l'Exynos 990, et surtout la démonstration du Snapdragon 865 sur le Galaxy S20 FE, le retard accumulé par les puces maison de Samsung ne faisait plus aucun doute. Nous étions sceptiques en apprenant que c'est l'Exynos 2100 qui équiperait le S21 Ultra, puisque sur le marché européen les Snapdragon restent réservés aux mobiles pliants du toute attente, le nouvel Exynos fait des merveilles. Le Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra est à l'aise dans sa gestion de la mémoire vive. Il se place également comme l'un des meilleurs smartphones pour jouer.
